The Cineroleum 5th Aug 2010 The Cineroleum
A group of current Churchillian Architects will be transforming a disused petrol station into a cinema this Summer.

Primarily constructed using donated and found materials; The Cineroleum will be an improvisation of the decadent interiors that greeted audiences during cinema's golden age. Popcorn, paper tickets, elaborate signage and flip-down seats will collectively recreate the familiar excitement of cinema-going.

Student at work 14th Jul 2010 Churchill's undergraduates have done the College proud in its 50th anniversary year!
Churchill's undergraduates have done the College proud in its 50th anniversary year, obtaining our best ever set of examination results. Our previous high mark was 2008, but this year we have gone even better. 28% of our students achieved Firsts, and an additional 47% II.1s.

These results gave us our highest placing in well over 20 years in the Tompkins Table of Cambridge College exam results. We were 3rd out of 29 Colleges. (In 1st place were Emmanuel, who had a quite exceptional year. Trinity pipped us to 2nd place by the narrowest of margins.)
The Rocking Pod 1st Jul 2010 Rocking Pod for Autistic Children
Harry Bullivant, former JCR President, was one of a team who designed a 'rocking chair' that helps to calm autistic children. Other team members were Clare Stevenson and Camilla Winfield. The pod, on display at the University's Institute for Manufacturing Design show, is a semi-enclosed chair. Once inside, the child is shielded from upsetting noise and excess visual stimuli. Primarily designed for use in schools, it offers a calming retreat. Harry, Clare and Camilla wanted to design something of real and practical help, and realised there was a growing need for products which could improve the quality of life for people with autism and for their carers. The pod has been put into use already and has been praised as effecting 'dramatic results'.
